We have been asked many times for the center shaft for the KR1 and KR1-S, and then we had 4 or 5 engines laying around the workshop with customers trying to source second hand center shafts. It became obvious that we needed to make some. So after researching the material, the heat treatment required and why they always wore out where the seals run, and where the bearings live. We were in a position to try and get them made. Interesting how when you try and do something like this everyone knows why they wear out, (not many other things have issues like this) but nobody has a solution!! Well we have, they have to be harder, to a greater depth, and have more interference to the bearings. Also have to be made from a proper piece of metal, like EN39B. Otherwise they will slip, then its just a matter of time. Pressing bearings on and off doesn't help, because it wears them down. These are made of the best Aircraft Spec' material we could get, I will add the details when I get some time.Spec'Added Here. Also the heat treatment. Unfortunately they are not cheap, like we are all used to, parts made in China etc, but they are within 5 microns, rockhard and made in the UK. They have 0.005 mm more interference on the bearings and into the webs, so the webs won't move from 180 degrees apart, and won't need welding. We can rebuild your crank for £68.00 + vat and guarantee its 180 degrees apart, the balance gear will be 90 degrees to either pin, and balanced to within 0.02mm. We have all the parts on the shelf at competetive prices, eg; a seal set is £48.50 + vat. A worn out pin is shown on the right, the other 2 are the new pins. £54.00+VAT |
